Reviving 1000-year old Kyoto indigo dyeing

Overview:
This project seeks to revive Kyo-ai, the indigo dyeing tradition once lost in Kyoto, while exploring techniques from the Nara and Muromachi periods. Using indigo cultivated in-house, it reconstructs historical methods in collaboration with farmers, schools, and research institutions. Through workshops and educational programs, it aims to regenerate the production region, share its value both in Japan and internationally, and pass this cultural legacy on to future generations — and a thousand years beyond.
