平安時代の歌集や詩集に端を発した懐紙が、鎌倉時代になって今日見られる色紙や短冊の形になったものです。もともと宮中の大経師がつくっていたものでありますが、現在では、その技術を受け継いで京都でそのほとんどが生産されています。
Pocket paper, which originated from songbooks and poetry collections in the Heian period, became the form of colored paper and strips that we see today in the Kamakura period. It was originally made by a master of the Imperial Court, but now most of it is produced in Kyoto after inheriting the technique.
