その起源は、平安中期に冷泉天皇の時代に始められたと伝えられ、「みちのく紙」と称され、紫式部や清少納言たちに愛された「まゆみがみ」はここで漉かれたといわれています。千年以上の歴史を誇ります。何より堅牢丈夫、揉んでもめったに破れることはありません。質朴な味が好まれ、書画や民芸品の材料として人気が高く、最近は、草木で染め付けたものや紅葉を漉き込んだものなど、新たな技法も開発されています。
Kamikawasaki Washi is said to originate during the reign of Emperor Reizumi in the mid-Heian period, and it is said that "Mayumigami", which was called "Michinoku paper" and was loved by Murasaki Shikibu and Kiyo Shonagon, was made here. It has a history of more than 1,000 years. It is strong and durable, and rarely tears even when rubbed. It is popular for its simple taste and is popular as a material for calligraphy and folk crafts, and recently new techniques have been developed, such as those dyed with plants and autumn leaves.
