Kaita Washi

Kaita Washi was produced mainly in the Minada area of Sayo Town, Sayo District, and is characterized by being thick and tear-resistant. The origin of the paper is not certain, but there is a description of Minada washi paper in the literature of the Muromachi period, and it is known that it was useful as a folding screen and shoji paper from that time. Although production ceased in Showa 43, various products such as stationery, fans, and lanterns are now produced.
