Kanazawa woodworking is said to have originated in the Muromachi period or during the Edo Bunka era. In the 1880s, Kaga makie master Masanori Ogaki invented the technique of makie decoration for paulownia braziers, adding a gorgeous touch and expanding sales channels nationwide. As the only paulownia craft in Japan decorated with makie, these products are prized for their excellent resistance to moisture as well as fire.
