Echizen Sugekasa, or sedge hats, are produced in the Shimizu area of ​​Fukui City, Fukui Prefecture using plant material from local wetlands. Characterized by their extreme lightness and waterproofness, these hats are designated as a local craft by Fukui Prefecture. Since the Edo period, farmers have made them as a side job, providing an important source of income in the off-season.
