Ishioka city, located near the center of Ibaraki prefecture, was originally a paulownia producing area, and its geographical location was also convenient for transporting high-quality paulownia wood from the Tohoku region. Accordingly, many paulownia processing companies operated there from the Taisho period to the beginning of the Showa period, and it developed as a production area for paulownia products. Production gradually declined over time due to a decrease in demand, and only one company remains, but it continues to produce a variety of products through new initiatives while still valuing tradition.
