In Fukui Prefecture, where they are deemed a prefectural craft, people often use shimenawa made of straw to express thanks for rice, the staple food. Urajiro leaves are often included, as is material from shibi and holly trees to ward off evil spirits. Daidai and yuzu leaves are included to represent the prosperity of descendants, and products from the mountains and seas are attached to pray for abundance in the world.
