Amended translation: Located in the mountains about 12 kilometers south of Yonago City, smoking kilns of Hosshoujiyaki shouka Gama overlook the clear waters of the Hosshoji River. It's said that pottery production began about 250 years ago by potter Josuke from Goshu (Shiga Prefecture). Carrying on this tradition, the first generation Ando Hidetaro built a kiln at its current location in 1903, at the end of the Meiji era. Tea bowls, vases and other items were produced and affixed with the Hossoji Temple seal (a reference to the village’s former name). One of the distinctive features of the kiln is the wide variety of glazes it uses. These homemade glazes are based on methods passed down through generations, with slight variations in the composition to create different colors. The softness of the finished product, particularly evident in earthenware teapots, is a defining feature.
