森山焼

Moriyama Yaki

森山焼は赤焼とも呼ばれ、深い紅色の作品が多いのが特徴です。 茶道 遠州流の茶祖 小堀遠州公が自ら指導した志戸呂焼の流れを汲んだ焼物です。

Moriyama Yaki, named after the town in which it was established (Mori-Machi, Shizuoka), has a relatively short history compared to many of its pottery counterparts. Started in 1911 by local Nakamura Hidekichi who wished to establish a kiln in the town of Mori-Machi, this craft is most significantly united by the facts of its geography. Currently, Moriyama Yaki is produced by four kilns within the town and artefacts produced between the different kilns do not share greater aesthetic overlap. The natural materials available in the local area dictate the aesthetic forms of Moriyama-ware, with pottery ranging from deep browns and yellows to vivid reds. Glazes incorporated into Moriyama-ware, too, have great range - artefacts may display glaze finishes ranging from subtle and more matte, to highly glossed and experimental.
