Koisago Yaki was established in 1830, when a regional clay was discovered by Tokugawa Nariaki Retsuko (lord of the Mito domain) and it was consequently used to establish the Mito domain’s official pottery. Koisago Yaki has been designated as one of Tochigi prefecture’s ‘Top 100 special products’ and a traditional craft of the prefecture.
