Inkyuzan Yaki

Born from the climbing kilns of Yazu, a town located south of Tottori city, Inkyuzan Yaki has an over-300 year history. The Inkyuzan Yaki was named the official kiln of the Tottori Domain which ruled the area, henceforth, proving highly useful in the production of pottery required for castle life. Following traditional methods, Inkyuzan ware requires intensive time and labour production, utilising locally harvested clay, straw and tree ash. Objects are hand-thrown on large pottery wheels and then wood-fired within the large climbing kiln for around 50 hours.
