Satsuma Tinware

Satsuma Tinware (Satsuma Suzuki-Ki) is a rare, modern continuation of a centuries-old
tin craft from Kagoshima Prefecture. Its roots trace back to the discovery of tin around 1655, which inspired local artisans to craft elegant utensils and vessels. Characterized by hand-turned polish and a cherished “pear-skin” luster, tinware enhances flavor, retains
temperature, and resists rust. Since 1916, the Satsuma Suzuki Kogeikan studio has
preserved this tradition—offering a range of handcrafted tinware and interactive experiences—ensuring that this luminous regional craft continues to shine today.
