Makibishi

Makibishi (撒菱) are caltrops introduced to Japan through continental military exchange and widely used during the medieval period. Thrown onto the ground, they were intended to slow or injure pursuing enemies, particularly barefoot soldiers or horses. Their simplicity and effectiveness made them valuable tools in guerrilla tactics and retreat strategies, illustrating the role of asymmetrical methods in historical warfare.
