Ecchu Fukuoka sugekasa are a traditional craft of Takaoka, Tonami, Oyabe, and Nanto cities in Toyama Prefecture. These sewn hats, which date back to the 1400s, became popular throughout Japan after the Kaga Domain encouraged production during the Edo period. Made of high-quality sedge grass sewn together using traditional techniques, they provide sun and rain protection during farm work and are also used in traditional events and festivals throughout Japan.
