Sanuki Okedaru

Sanuki okedaru are a traditional craft of Kagawa Prefecture. In the old days, barrels were made by bending thin cypress boards, sealing them with cherry or birch bark, and attaching a bottom. It was not until the Muromachi period that they were made in the current cylindrical structure, created by fastening thin boards with hoops and placing a bottom board inside. Kagawa barrels are often made of cherry wood, and many have been passed down from generation to generation. People today continue to enjoy and use handmade sushi barrels, rice bowls, and ladles in everyday life.
