This traditional Chinese flying toy is made by cutting bamboo into a propeller-shaped roter and attaching it to a hard bamboo shaft so that the wings can twirl. It is unclear when the toy was introduced to Japan, but a similar wooden product was excavated from the remains of a Nagayao residence dating back to the Nara period. Similar toys have also been excavated from ruins of the Heian and Kamakura periods.
