Yaizu Kyu dougu

Tools such as archery arrows, bowstrings, and yugake (leather gloves worn when shooting a bow) are made in Yaizu City, Shizuoka Prefecture, It is said that the origins can be traced back to a vassal of the Takeda clan from Kai (Yamanashi Prefecture) who moved to Shizuoka and began working as an arrow maker. During the Edo period, Shizuoka was under direct control of the shogunate, and commoners were allowed to carry bows in preparation for emergencies, leading to a large archery population and the development of this local craft.
