Tsuzure Nishiki is a traditional brocade weaving technique originating from the Nishijin district in Kyoto, now practiced in Moriyama City, Shiga Prefecture. Known as "tsuzure-ori," this unique method uses a tapestry-like approach where the weaver's specially filed fingernails are used to push down the weft threads, creating fine, gap-like patterns. This highly skilled process results in a durable, flat weave with a three-dimensional feel. The fabric is highly valued for its intricate designs, often used for obi (sash) and other luxurious items, representing a fusion of Nishijin's elaborate tradition with a distinctive weaving style.
