Mikawa Momen Shima

Mikawa Momen Shima is a traditional striped cotton fabric from the Mikawa region, with textile roots dating back to the Jomon period, when primitive weaving tools were used. While early records mention weaving with wisteria vines, the exact start of cotton weaving remains unclear. Revived through the Gamagori City Renaissance Project, the craft has been preserved by the Mikawa Cotton Hand Weaving Workshop “Tebataba” since 2005. The process involves growing cotton, spinning it into thread, dyeing with natural dyes, and handweaving. Its main product is cotton rolls.
