Unpei Fude

During the early Edo period, around the Genna era (1615–1624), production began, inheriting the tradition of the first-generation ancient Shikamakifude (Shikamaki brush). The main materials are animal hairs, combining various types such as raccoon, deer, sheep, and horse hair. The most challenging and technically demanding process is the shintate (core preparation). The defining feature is the kamimaki (paper wrapping), where 1 cm-wide Japanese paper is wrapped around the core hairs.
