Vision

To launch a new craft genre of metallic lacquer ware through product and market development and lacquer tree farming.

Biography

Born in Hokkaido in 1963, Tsuji Tohru has been interested in woodworking from an early age.  He graduated from the Tokyo University of the Arts with an MFA in 1990 and complete his work as a research student in woodwork from the Junior College of Takaoka in 1991.  He started Ware Wood Work Co. in 1996 in Ibaraki.


Commendations include:

1998 Award of Encouragement at the Ibaraki Prefecture Art Festival

2006 Rookie of the Year, East Japan Traditional Craft Exhibition

2013 Produce treasures of Ise Shrine

2015 Certified as Master of the Forest

2019 The Commendation of the Commissioner of the Agency Cultural Affairs
