Native to Mastushiro, Nagano prefecture, this ceramic craft features reddish-brown clay gathered from the iron-rich surrounding mountains. Blue, green, and white glazes are produced using natural materials also local to the area and applied to the ceramics. Mastsushiro-ware can be characterised by the allowance of glazes to drip within the kiln, resulting in a colour-shifting wavy or drippy appearance. Matsushiro Yaki was designated as a traditional craft of Nagano in 2014.
