Rooted in the related practices of Naeshirogawa Yaki and Satsuma Yaki, Komatsubara Yaki is a pottery practice 400 years in the making. Komatsubara ware can be identified by decorative techniques that create fine cracks along a vessel’s surface, creating a shark skin-like effect. Using a kiln that reaches 1300 degrees, Komatsubara Yaki specialises in the creation of tea bowls but also produces many everyday vessels.
