Otaki Yaki

大多喜焼は、地元産出の陶土を原材料として、手びねりや蹴ろくろを用いた技法により製作され、粗く独特な質感が特徴的な焼き物です。「大多喜焼」工房阿弥陀窯の井口さんは、瀬戸・常滑で陶芸を学んだ後、伝統的な技術を研究し、地元の原材料にこだわった釉薬を使って、途絶えていた大多喜焼を復興されました。千葉県指定伝統的工芸品。

Originating in Chiba prefecture and designated a traditional craft by Chiba Prefecture in 2021. Ceramics characterised by a rough and unique texture, Otaki-ware utilises hand and kick-wheel techniques in its production. Mr Takayuki Iguchi (of Amida Kiln) is a significant practitioner of Otaki Yaki and campaigned for its designation of a traditional craft by Chiba Prefecture. Mr Iguchi collects local materials to create the glaze applied to Otaki yaki, which results in its irregular finish.
