Produced in Sano City, Tochigi prefecture, Sano Dorei Dobue are small clay bell figurines made from wood-bushi clay and tile clay. The clay bells are fired at high temperatures and, after being taken out of the kiln, are painstakingly painted using a variety of colors, including pigments, enamel, and varnish. They are a traditional craft of Tochigi Prefecture.
