Uchibake brush used for art restoration

The Uchibake is a traditional Japanese restoration brush—a sturdy, wooden-handled tool with dense palm or tsugu bristles—used during the ura-uchi or backing process of scroll-mounting. Its primary role is to gently tap and press pasted backing layers together, enhancing adhesion and creating a smooth, resilient surface. Free of metal parts for preservation integrity, it remains an essential instrument in the meticulous craft of artwork mounting, valued for its precision and delicate handling.
